EasyJet's Classic Livery: A Look Back at Gatwick's "Orange Airport"

Many may not remember, but EasyJet's aircraft used to sport a vibrant orange and white livery. These pictures, taken at Gatwick Airport between 2016 and 2018, capture that era. The airline has since transitioned to a new design, but the classic orange scheme holds a special place in my photo collection.

Gatwick Airport even earned the nickname "the orange airport" due to EasyJet's dominance. It's a reminder of how quickly things change in aviation. Here, we see several aircraft in the old livery, some of which have likely been stored, scrapped or repainted by now.

This post serves as a reminder to capture those fleeting moments. While the weather may not be ideal today, putting off photography can lead to missed opportunities.

Looking back on my 50+ years of photography, I started with a simple Kodak Brownie. It wasn't fancy, but it sparked a lifelong passion. Now, in my 60s, I'm revisiting this love and sometimes wonder about I should have taken an alternative paths, like pursuing photography as a career. But hindsight is always 20/20, right?

I hope you enjoyed this glimpse into EasyJet's past at Gatwick.

SPOTTING AT LONDON GATWICK "YOU NEED TO KNOW WHERE TO GO"

Over the next few months I am going to share with you the places I go spotting. I been coming up to the airport since the 1960's. I started going up on my own in 1973 once I had passed my cycling proficient at the age of 15. There was a group of us and we all fly up there on our bikes.

There are lots of place to go which are on the landside of the airport. They are public paces and not infringing on private or airport land.

I am very well known to the police all be it a lot of my old airport security and police friends have retired. Some of the new ones do talk to me and are never rude or proactive to move you on. The last guy was also a spotter but worked inside the airport normally.

This is Prestwood lane I tell you more on a future post. There lost of wild life around here as well. So when there no planes there are plenty of birds, foxes, and farm animals to take photos of.

This kind of photo is good with a camera lenes of 300m to 600m. It takes over 15 minutes to walk here from the nearest parking spot.

Go around are great for me but not the passenger. Gatwick is well know for many go arounds. They fly over my house as well. Not good early in the morning as the noise is very loud, who needs an alarm.

I do love going up to Gatwick when there a special plane landing. Being three miles away it is very easy for me. This Qantas was early doors and I was up at 5:30am. It arrived at around 7:10am and did a go around first.

Please follow our blog and I love to read any comments or question you may have. This is me and my dog Dougie. Happy spotting till next time. Our website is Airspotters.com if you like model aircraft.

Can anyone tell me the name of the church where the spier is on the right of the photo. Reminds me of Lowfield Heath at Gatwick. This photo is around the early 1990's but the exact date eludes me. I will find it once I find the correct logbook with. PLEASE COMMENT BELOW I LOVE READING THE COMMENTS Malcolm Airspotters.com . As always please like and follow us.

LONDON GATWICK QANTAS A380 LANDS EARLY .

What a wake up call for a Monday 530am. I have not got up that early since retiring. It was like work all over again and indeed it was work. It would have been so easy to say stay in bed, I leave it and not go up to Gatwick, but so glad I did. It was raining and cold and a long walk to the spot where I wanted to be.

I saw SDTV walking past and will no doubt catch the take off later.  They are live today at Gatwick and you can see them here https://www.youtube.com/@SDTVLiveAviation . I will upload a short video later on YouTube, but for the best video watch SDTV.

Please like follow us as well. Cheerio for now Malcolm Airspotters.com
