Explaining about our preloved models at Airspotters.com

Our Preloved collection offers unique opportunities for model enthusiasts. These cherished items have found their way to us through downsizing or, in some cases, as part of a bereavement process. We understand the emotional significance of these models and strive to find them loving new homes.

While we carefully inspect each model, please note that they are not brand new. Minor imperfections like missing wing aerials or shelf wear may be present. We appreciate your understanding as we work diligently to accurately describe each item. To ensure your model looks its best, a gentle clean with warm soapy water or a simple dust and polish might be necessary. We love to do this for you, however the pressure of the business dictates otherwise.

We offer competitive pricing to reflect the nature of these items and want you to feel confident in your purchase. Please note that discount codes cannot be applied to Preloved or Clearance items.

Thank you for supporting our efforts to find these special models their next adventure.”*

The wackiest Boeing 747 I have ever seen

The wackiest Boeing 747 I have ever seen. Dunsfold 2017 this 747 had fake engines put on by Pinewood studios. Made out of plywood and rotten by now. James Bond Casino Royale the plane in thats was a large models but close up they used this. They came to Dunsfold and filmed here at night. A friend of mine was one of the ambulances on standby here when they did the filming. The rest is smoke and mirrors and if you see the film you not know you were here or even outside. Boeing made a rule that the 747 aircraft was not recognisable as a 747 and that was achieved very well. The plane was used as a business meeting place but the inside is very damp and horrible. Bob Cooper may have some more info on this, from the time he worked on the VC-10. Last I heard it was down to be scrapped but then two BA 747 arrived to keep I company. The engines are so bad you can put you finger though the wood. Someone had when I was there and this is how I know. Malcolm Airspotters.com

AIRLINE ADVERTISING FROM THE OLD DAYS

AIRLINE ADVERTISING FROM THE OLD DAYS

This blog covers almost all subject to do with aviation old and new. Advertising is one thing I decided to keep as the years went by. This advert is of TWA and around the1980's.

AIRLINES EARLY HISTORY

TWA's corporate history dates from July 16, 1930, and the forced merger of Transcontinental Air Transport (TAT), Western Air Express (WAE), Maddux Air Lines, Standard, and Pittsburgh Aviation Industries Corporation (PAIC) to form Transcontinental & Western Air (T&WA) on 1 Oct.

They then became TWA which we all know stands for Trans World Airways (or Try Walking Across)

This picture above is of a TWA 747 I took at Gatwick, hopefully offering the service as advertised above. I love the old days and if you do please comment below.

"LEE GRANT STARRED" SHE BE 99 IN 2024

I watch Columbo and there an ending scene of two TWA Boeing 747 in the globe livery. Ransom for a Dead Man 1971. But that is a story for another day.

LOOK BACK AT PLANE SPOTTING AND HOW IT USED TO BE AT HEATHROW

I was old enough to actually see the Pan Am 747-100 at Heathrow many times. Pan Am and TWA did use a lot of 707’s but eventually got the 747 and 747SP on the routes. This was because it was the 1970’s and like today, airlines are waiting on the newer aircraft to be built. The date for this photo was August 1977, taken on my Kodak Box Brownie. I was 18 years old. I took the 727 bus up from Crawley. Had to get out at epsom as I was travel sick and then catch the next one. No M25 in those days up through Tadworth and Epsom. Just 12 photos per reel of film I had. If I was lucky my dad would give me money to buy another reel in the shop on top of the Queens building spectators. So a max of 24 photos per visit and then a long wait to see if they developed ok. Could be a few weeks as money to pay for that had to be earned in Sainsbury where I worked. I was on about £28 a week then full time. These days take as many as you like and then download them when you get home. No flight radar so you had to spot the aircraft and read the registration manually. Missed a lot of aircraft back then. Used to try and get the registration as the bus went past the hangers by hatton cross. Not easy, you had one chance in a few seconds. Only ever remember one bus driver slowed and stopped. He must have been a plane spotter himself.
